2024 vs. 2025 U.S. Flag Stamps: What Looks Different?
A search for U.S. Flag stamps can show a flag against changing clouds, a flag on a plain white background, and several different roll photographs. For the 2024 and 2025 issues, those differences begin with the stamp artwork itself.
Why 2024 U.S. Flag stamps have different skies
USPS released the 2024 U.S. Flags issue on June 14, 2024. The four designs show the flag at different times of day, with changing clouds and light. Ethel Kessler designed the stamps using Laura Stutzman’s illustrations. The USPS 2024 release announcement explains the set.
A roll photograph may show only part of that artwork sequence. Look through the product gallery rather than assuming the one stamp facing the camera represents every visible design in the package. If an exact design assortment matters, confirm it before ordering.
What changed in the 2025 design?
The 2025 stamp places a photographed flag against a bright white background. Antonio Alcalá designed it using a photograph by Doug Haight; it was issued on June 7, 2025. The USPS 2025 issue announcement provides the original release information.
In our 2025 image, the wording beneath the flag creates a different layout from the 2024 artwork: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” sits above a red rule, with “FOREVER/USA” below. In the 2024 image, sky and flag artwork occupy much of the stamp face.

Separate the artwork from the order quantity
Four designs does not mean four stamps in your order. One design does not mean one stamp. Artwork count, stamps per booklet or coil, and the number of packs are three different details.

Which year fits a matching stationery set?
If you want a plain background around the flag, the 2025 artwork is the clearer visual starting point. If you prefer a sky scene and variation across the flag artwork, examine the 2024 images. This is an aesthetic choice, not a ranking of postage quality.
For envelopes prepared over several sessions, save a sample image with the year in your purchasing notes. Someone placing a repeat order can then match the intended appearance instead of choosing whichever flag listing appears first.
Does the newer design provide more postage?
No. Genuine, unused domestic one-ounce Forever stamps serve the same basic letter-postage purpose regardless of these design differences. The completed envelope may still need additional postage depending on its weight, size, or shape. Check USPS First-Class Mail requirements.
